Project Description

NRA Home Firearm Safety Course

Whether you’re a new or prospective gun owner or hunter in search of training, whatever your age or level of experience, whatever type of firearm you’re interested in, RISE has a firearms safety course for you.

Course Goal: This non-shooting course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and explains the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home.

This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted inside the classroom only. Students are taught the NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to load and unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. This course is a must for current or prospective firearm owners, parents and anyone who has children in or around their home, and anyone who wishes to learn how to properly safeguard firearms in their home. There is also a focus on the psychology of children, how it relates to firearms and what you can do to educate your children as you see as appropriate. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure and course completion certificate.
